Let’s Hope the Future’s Scary as Hell!

Article by James
For most of us who have had a tough year, being November, it’s difficult not to look back and review. The end of each year brings time to reflect, see what mistakes we made and can learn from, and generally what we can improve in the year to come. I say forget it. Drop it. Don’t even deal with it. In 2012, Ridley Scott will unleash what is rumoured to be his most terrifying vision yet – Prometheus. The “unofficial” prequel to his legendary, genre-defining Alien. Focus on the scary future!!!!!

Very little is known re the details bar the official spin – “A team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.” Don’t even bother with youtube either. The 1+ minute trailer reveals zip. Even a recent junket with Scott and one of the lead actors, the extremely talented and very watch-able Charlize Theron, has thrown little light on what happens. But Scott has said that the idea for the film came to him re dialogue that is mentioned at the end of the first Alien film. Hmmmm.

Sci Fi/Horror hasn’t been Scott’s celluloid world for years, so it is exciting to see him return to what put him on the map in terms of feature film. And with a career spanning Blade Runner and Thelma & Louise, to Hannibal and American Gangster, this director is truly on form. Also starring Michael Fassbender, the under-rated Patrick Wilson, and even Aussie Guy Pearce, Prometheus will hit screens mid 2012.

Ahhhhh Ripley. We’ll be wishing you were here to kick arse.
