It is always a wonderful thing when you hear a success story from the film industry in Oz; like the Saw boys and their on-going productivity. So it is with great pleasure that I tell you about a very cool sounding flick coming our way. The Raven; released in the US at the end of this month.
Directed by Sydney-sider James McTeigue, The Raven is a period flick with a twist: “When a madman begins committing horrific murders inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s works, a young Baltimore detective joins forces with Poe to stop him from making his stories a reality.” Starring the now hit-and-miss John Cusack (I think Loz might slap me for that one) as Poe, the film also stars a relatively unknown actor named Luke Evans as the Detective. Now while you may not know Evans by name, he played Zeus in the sublime – just released on DVD – 2011’s Tarsem Singh Directed, Immortals. If you haven’t seen Immortals I have nothing more to say, go see! I watched it twice this passed weekend!
Back to Director James McTeigue. Now while he isn’t the most known name in steering a flick’s ship, you know his work. He was the first assistant Director on The Matrix Trilogy and then took the reigns as Director with “The Wachowski brothers’” next project, the severely underrated, 2005’s V for Vendetta. Support this guy.
