Do you ask yourself, “What ever happened to Holly Hunter?” I do. That pocket rocket of nuanced performance, who graced the big screen in such triumphs as 1987’s Broadcast News, the sublime 1993 flick The Piano, and the severely underrated, 1995’s Copycat with Ripley in tow. And OMG, who could forget her role in 1996’s David Cronenberg Directed Crash? Well, turns out her dry patch on the big screen is finally over.
Released in late 2012, we welcome her back in the film Won’t Back Down. “Two determined mothers, one a teacher, look to transform their children’s failing inner city school. Facing a powerful and entrenched bureaucracy, they risk everything to make a difference in the education and future of their children.” Ha,ha,ha… Ok, I’m not going soft. On the surface this does sound crapola. But it does co-star one of my favorite actors, Maggie Gyllenhaal, so it can’t be as dull as it seems. Besides, I LOVE Hunter. And she needs to be more present on the radar.
And as if her return hasn’t got me all goose-pimply, her next film project is the as yet untitled Diablo Cody film currently in post-production with a released date sometime in 2013. Keep watch!
Also, does anyone remember the 1981 horror flick The Burning? Basic rip-off of the premise behind the original Friday the 13th, but unlike the many, actually cool. It was one of Hunter’s first acting gigs!
