Recently I dedicated two whole days to watching documentaries and in my opinion it’s only a matter of time before documentaries are placed onto the best movie category at the Oscars.
The first documentary I watched “The Imposter” sucks you in from the opening credits and I found myself holding my breath for the entire movie. The true story about a 23 year old French Algerian who duped not only the Spanish police, the FBI, the US State Department but also a family into thinking he was a missing 16 year old boy from Texas. It’s one of the most incredible true stories of the year, do yourself a favour and go and watch it, you won’t be disappointed.
Next is Searching for Sugar Man, the fascinating portrait of a forgotten musical genius dubbed by most as the original Dylan, who was bigger than Elvis in South Africa but was living the life of a homeless man in his hometown of Detroit, Michigan. Again, as far as documentaries go, I found these two to be much better than all the original movies up for Oscar nominations this year.
I’m just about to watch Man on Wire, gotta go!
