13 Assassins – The Greatest Samurai Movie Ever Made!

Cult Director and one of my favourites Takeshi Miike (Ichi the Killer, Audition) delivers what most are calling his finest film yet, 13 Assassins.

Set in the 1840’s during a time of peace and at the end of Samurai power. A group of assassins come together for a suicide mission to kill the evil lord. I know what you’re thinking, another samurai assassin movie? Wrong. This film offers great dialogue, charisma and the strategy, an area where most films fall. It pounds with action, but also explores the beautiful history of the Japanese honour and loyalty system. A much fresher experience than would seem likely for such a well-trodden genre.

The mind of Miike is one yet to be matched. Takashi was born in the small town of Yao on the outskirts of Osaka, Japan. A prolific director, Miike has directed 60+ films in his 13 years as director. I have watched Miike’s films over and over and over again, and I can guarantee you, you will not be disappointed with this one!
