Rocky is back with Creed!

Balboa is back folks with Apollo’s son the young Creed (and no, I don’t mean that terrible band called Creed).

Hailed as the greatest sporting film of all time, Rocky returns for another round. Michael B Jordan plays Adonis Creed the son of Rocky’s best mate and undefeated world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed played by the awesome and ever so charismatic Carl Weathers. If you remember that long back, Apollo was killed in Rocky IV by Russian cyborg Ivan Drago.

So it’s a nice twist to have Apollo’s son take over in his dad’s footsteps with Uncle Rocky by his side. I don’t care what you say about this latest instalment, no one is going to talk shit about Rocky, no matter how many sequels there are, Rocky can do no wrong in my eyes, hola to the working class.

If you get a chance to watch the trailer, do yourself a favour and watch it, Jordon is impressive as Apollo’s son and looks menacing enough to take on the world.

Creed is scheduled for release early December…best Christmas ever!

Paranormal Activity 5 – The Ghost Dimension

Not too sure if you know this or not about me, but I love my horror and paranormal anything, and was super excited to watch Paranormal Activity 1 and even 2, but they should of stopped there, enough is enough…right?

So here we are in 2015 with Paranormal Activity 5. The Paranormal Activity franchise is set to reach its frightening conclusion with The Ghost Dimension and judging from the trailer they might be onto a winner here. Producer Jason Blum promises an answer to the eternal question of….who da fuck is Toby? Blum recently discussed the movie with, here is what he had to say “”it’s coming to an end. This is it, the finale. We’re saying it before the movie opens. We’re not going to grind this horror franchise into the ground. This will keep Paranormal Activity as part of this culture and this particular time in a really fantastic way. We couldn’t go just teasing. All the questions that everyone has asked from the past Paranormal Activity films: What does Toby look like? What’s the backstory to the families? These questions have been teased out. Now they will be answered.”

So here is the gist of the finale movie: The film follows a new family, the Fleeges who move into the house to surprise surprise find the footage (the 3D found footage from the first franchise) that finally explains who and what Toby is. When they look through a particular lens on a particular camera they begin to see all the activity happening right in front of them, including the danger of the two young daughters (who I’ve been told are kickass in this movie).

Released worldwide in October 2015, Ghost Dimension promises a horrifying finale, a think a bit of wee just came out!

Trainwreck – The Quintessential Single Ladies Film!

Amy Schumer is not a household name in Australia just yet, but after her first movie debut titled Trainwreck she will be.

Amy stars in this hilarious movie as a journalist of sorts working at a tacky men’s magazine where they run stories like “the 10 ugliest celebrity babies under 6 years old” and seems to actually enjoy writing them. She sleeps with whoever she wants, whenever she wants, as many times as she wants and believes monogamy doesn’t exist, thanks to her bitter alcoholic father (Colin Quinn) who told his little girls at a very young age to basically “screw around and have fun”.

Amy is assigned to write a profile on a sports doctor named Aaron (Bill Hader) and ends up accidently sleeping with him after realising there was chemistry between the two. In her world, this is where the date would end, but to her shock, he phones her the next day and wants to actually see her…again??

Even if you think you know where this movie is going, you might be pleasantly surprised. With Judd Apatow behind the camera, you can at least be sure for some laughs, and single ladies, I think this one’s for you!

Trainwreck is released in Australia on 30 July!

Ari and the boys are back with Entourage – The Movie!

Love em or hate em, the boys are back in town!

So what we know of the final episode was that Vince finally found love, Drama finally got a job as a voice actor, Turtle accidently became a tequila tycoon, Eric becoming a daddy and Ari quit his job and moved to Florence with his family.

Entourage the movie picks up where the last episode left off with the film taking place only 4 months after the final episode (in real life time it’s been 4 years). So what we know is that Vince’s marriage doesn’t work out, Ari accepts a job for Time Warner, Drama is back unemployed and Turtle is still driving them all around. What we also know is that Ari gives the boys $100million to write and direct their own movie, which proves to be troublesome to say the least.

The movie is showing LA on a much bigger scale and special guests such as Liam Neeson, Emily Ratajkowski, Ronda Rousey, Russell Wilson, Mike Tyson, Gary Busey, Mark Cuban, Bob Saget, Mark Wahlberg, Tom Brady, Piers Morgan, Jessica Alba, Kelsey Grammer, and Ed O’Neill all make an appearance.

Entourage” the movie was directed Doug Ellin, who co-created the show with Mark Wahlberg, and will be released in Australia on 11th June. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Poltergeist 2015….Meh!

Oh Hollywood, you’ve done it again! Why can’t you just let a good movie be? Why must you remake anything that’s remotely great or successful?

Of course I’m talking about the new remake of Poltergeist. Remember that paranormal movie from 1982 where the house is filled with ghosts that only communicate with the young daughter through the TV? Yeah they remade that.

The new remake of the classic 80’s horror flick is really not needed, granted it’s scary enough and entertaining enough but like all remakes of great classics, doesn’t live up to the original (what a shocker).

Ok, remakes aren’t always a bad idea, i.e. The Departed, True Grit, The Magnificent Seven etc but they are far and few in between. This remake shows no lack of interpretation or vision, and is unimaginative and basically unnecessary.

I will say that Sam Rockwell in any lead character is always a bonus, and the acting overall is pretty good, even though the kids are mostly on their mobile phones throughout the whole movie, but even Mr Rockwell’s talent can’t muster up enough energy to pull this one over the finish line.

Poltergeist 2015 is out now, judge for yourself and get back to me!

Going Clear – The Scientology Movie!

going clear

Imagine if you were reading a great Sci-Fi novel where the main character obsesses about alien abduction, wealth, status, power, and eye for an eye, paranoia, the government, treating others badly and intimidation tactics. Now imagine this character starts a religion called Scientology, now imagine this actually happened…..welcome to Going Clear!

Alex Gibney’s “Going Clear” has everyone talking, and I mean everyone. In his latest creation, Alex answers the questions we all want to know such as, where has this religion come from, why is it so popular and why has it attached itself to celebrities?

Going clear has many fascinating details, shocking stories and revelations of Scientology and the Orwellian nightmare most members are forced to live in. Gibney examines all aspects of Scientology from an organisational view including its background, its history, its creators, its people and most importantly its leader Mr L Ron Hubbard.

L Ron Hubbard is portrayed as a deeply troubled man of the highest intelligence who was smart enough to start a vision called Scientology and morph it into a worldwide phenomenon.

The movie starts off with background information about the religion which shines the light on how the church cultivates its true believers, and just gets scarier as it plods along, especially when members leave and are asked to disassociate themselves from their loved ones.

If you are fascinated with the world of Scientology like most of us are, this documentary will answer all your questions and probably raise a few more. With so much information crammed into it, 2 hours will not be enough; if you’re still shocked by what you just witnessed you might have to go back for a second viewing, like I did!

Going Clear is out now.

Mad Max: Fury Road is finally here!

Set in a post-apocalyptic world where people fight to the death, Max (Tom Hardy) joins forces with a mysterious woman Furiosa (Charlize Theron) to fight to stay alive. The films follows Max as a lone survivor who gets caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by the enigmatic Furiosa.

Max Max: Fury Road, produced and co-written by George Miller sees the Mad Max franchise come back to life after 30 years. Plans for the fourth film in this franchise hit financial difficulties which saw the project come to a halt for over “25 years”.

There were rumours that Mel Gibson was set to make a cameo, but alas that wasn’t to be, although it would have been totally cool. This is what Miller recently told the Sydney Morning Herald “our film, luckily after a ridiculous amount of work, is testing extremely well…We’re very happy. There has been a lot of doubt about it, with people saying “it took so long’, but Warners have delayed it until 2015 to go into the top weekend of the year.”

Mad Max will be hitting Theatres May 14th; I’ll be there, will you?

That Sugar Film – Not So Sweet!

sugar film

Remember what Morgan Spurlock did to his body in Super-Size me, where he ate nothing but McDonalds for a month? Well just replace McDonalds with sugar and you have That Sugar Film!

That Sugar Film, from Australia actor Damon Gameau follows a similar theme to illustrate that fat won’t kill ya, but sugar definitely will. Gameau targets the health food industry head on whilst exposing some home truths along the way.

Gameau’s life goes from being three years sugar free to eating 40 teaspoons of sugar a day (over 60 days) and documents the changes it has on his health, frame of mind and impending family.

Look, you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to work out that consuming that much sugar will eventually get you, but it’s what’s hidden within the healthy foods that we eat that will surprise you.

If you’re at all worried about your health or the impact of hidden sugars in our daily foods, you should probably at some point try and watch this documentary. Just remember to have your sugar hit before you go!

Montage of Heck: The Official Kurt Cobain Documentary is finally here!

The new first fully authorised documentary, Montage of Heck about the late Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain is finally being released later this year. The documentary which took 8 years to make was directed and produced by Oscar nominee Brett Morgen (Crossfire Hurricane, The Kid Stays in the Picture).

Morgen was given full personal access to Cobain’s entire estate and recently said the following to Rolling Stone, “I began working on the project eight years ago and was floored by the amount of material Cobain had left behind: Once I stepped into Kurt’s archive, I discovered over 200 hours of unreleased music and audio, a vast array of art projects (oil paintings, sculptures), countless hours of never-before-seen home movies, and over 4,000 pages of writings that together help paint an intimate portrait of an artist who rarely revealed himself to the media”.

Described as a must see documentary for Nirvana fans, filled with unheard tracks and never before seen footage, doesn’t really celebrate Cobain’s death but more his life. Frances Bean Cobain (daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love) was the executive producer on the documentary and is said to be very happy with the outcome.

Montage of Heck premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to rave reviews and is set to hit our shores on April 30.

Personally, I can’t wait!
